What Makes a Good Parent?

Being a good parent consists of having love and care towards your child. They should have lots of support, a source of discipline and punishment, a great knowledge of understanding, give the child privacy when they get older and to have the knowledge of being a parent. Being a good parent should give the child the chance to experience life in their own way. I believe that parents are there to help you get onto the right path and make the right decisions to help keep you safe. Also with being a good parent, parents should not control the child's life.
I believe that when you are a parent, your relationship with your spouse decreases. You are now focusing your attention on the child and now have no time for each other. The way that you may parent, may be different from your spouse. Sometimes we don't agree with the parent and this may lead to divorce. The stress of being a parent is phenomenal. So when divorce occurs it adds to the stress of now being a single parent. When you have a child be prepared to fight with your spouse and to get mad at each other anytime.
If planning on being a parent be prepared to find yourself spending more than you have in your life. Children are very expensive and need your attention all the time, espically if they are new borns. The best way to be financially sound is to have a great job that covers maternity leave. With your spouse working and you getting payed unemployment, chances are you could have a chance of becoming financially sound. Although, if you do not wish to spend money on anyone other than yourself, being a parent is not right for you.
My ideal parent would consist mostly of love and care. I believe that there should also be a chance for me to be the person who i want to be and not who my parents want to be. For example, if i wanted to go to college to become a veternarian, my parent would support me in my decision and help me to get the things that i needed to start college, not tell mke that i should become an actress and move to Hollywood. My parents would be very supportive of my decision and help me to fulfill my dream.
